Ever wondered what a Mummy MOT® is? It's a postnatal service especially designed for mums who have had vaginal or caesarean births. In France, it's usual to have 10 physiotherapy sessions after birth, as standard. Unfortunately, this is not the case in the UK, and that is why the Mummy MOT® started offering specialist services to mums who really need it.
So what is involved?
During the 1 hour consultation, your posture, pelvic floor and deep core abdominal muscles will all be checked by a pelvic physiotherapist. It is important that all three of these elements are working well together before returning to exercise.
What else is provided?
A full posture screen
Pelvic floor assessment (with or without an internal examination)
Diastasis recti check (abdominal separation)
Bladder, bowel and sexual dysfunction screening
Individualised exercise program to fit into your lifestyle and fitness goals
Depending on your personal goals, it may be recommended that you have follow-up physiotherapy sessions to support you. The latest evidence and guidelines will be used to support you on a safe return to exercise.
When is it suitable to have a Mummy MOT?
It is best to wait until 6 weeks after birth for any internal examination. That said, it is still appropriate to have a Mummy MOT years after childbirth, especially if you're struggling with any pain or symptoms like leaking or lower back pain.
How do I book in?
The Mummy MOT sessions are held at the Alma Vale Centre, Clifton. You can find a time to suit you via Liz's booking link: www.almaphysiotherapy.co.uk/book-online
