WOMENS HEALTH

Breast Health

New evidence has proven that therapeutic ultrasound, lymphatic drainage and taping can be quick and effective treatment for early mastitis and engorgement. Liz is the only physiotherapist in Bristol to offer this new non-pharmacological treatment.

Caesarean Scar

Massage and scar treatment as soon as it heals can prevent lower back pain and improve day to day function. You will be taught how to manage this at home so you can maximise your recovery.

We have a scar specialist, Amy at the clinic who can treat your tummy and scar for 1 hour sessions. This may also include our Lymphatouch device which can be very helpful on bumpy scars or C-section overhang.

Diastasis Recti

Separation of your abdominal muscles happens in every pregnancy to allow baby to grow. Physiotherapy can assist via an accurate assessment, then loading and tension via your breath and deep core muscles to improve the function of your tummy. Depending on the size of your gap, how your pelvic floor is functioning and your personal fitness goals, you will be guided through a tailored program for your body and lifestyle.

 Pelvic Girdle Pain

Pregnancy pelvic girdle pain (PGP) and sciatic pain are common ailments during pregnancy and physiotherapy can help. Massage, taping, specific strength and stretching are all helpful and safe treatment options during pregnancy (from 12 weeks onwards). A tailored crib sheet for birthing positions will also be provided for your medical team if required.

Pelvic Floor

Did you know your pelvic floor has links with your diaphragm and even your toes?! Your pelvic floor is integral to your continence, sexual function, mental health and general fitness. We rely on a pelvic floor that can engage and relax in synergy with your diaphragm to allow for proper function. An internal pelvic floor examination is optional but often recommended if you have had a vaginal birth.

Womens' Health

Our physios are registered to the Pelvic Obstetric Gynaecological Physiotherapy (POGP) professional network and Liz and Caroline are registered Mummy MOT® practitioners. Women still aren't getting the medical care that they deserve and it's time to change that!

We can advise on a range of conditions, including endometriosis symptom management, fibroid symptom management, vaginismus and common women's health conditions as below.

A 'Mummy MOT' includes a pelvic floor, diastasis and posture check, but we have diastasis-only or C-section scar-only appointments available.

If you are treated for pregnancy physiotherapy, you are eligable for £10 off a Mummy MOT assessment.

We also offer yoga for womens' health, pregnancy yoga and yoga for menopause. For menopause physio or yoga support, click here.

For women-specific life coaching, Candice can help! She offers discounted guidance and expertise for Alma Physiotherapy clients. Click here to book.
