What to expect in a postnatal physio check or Mummy MOT®?
Why is a postnatal check important?
Did you know it's standard to have 10 physio sessions after ANY type of birth in France? It's still somehow seen as a luxury in the UK.
Did you know it's standard to have 10 physio sessions after ANY type of birth in France? It's still somehow seen as a luxury in the UK.
Pregnancy and birth is a HUGE change on the body, so it's very NORMAL to need some support as you return to your usual activity.
On returning to sport and when lifting little ones, it's key that your pelvic floor, diaphragm and abdominal wall are working together as a trio, and that any scar tissue or adhesions are moving well.
The Mummy MOT® is a pelvic floor, tummy and posture check (suitable for any birth type), but we can tailor the treatment to you.
You'll get specific exercises and guidance on your pelvic floor (internal assessments always optional) and core, and we'll usually provide some functional strength exercises as a stepping stone to returning to an exercise of your choice.
Over the years, we have found that having access to further support like birth trauma help (3 step rewind), one to one personal training, scar therapy, nutrition, life coaching, hypopressives, help with engorgement and mastitis, yoga and pilates and now acupuncture very helpful. We have built connections that we trust so you can get extra care as needed.
Our physios are trained to support you to high level sport if needed, including CrossFit or weightlifting, pole dancing or ultra-running or cycling.
Our Mummy MOT+ packages discounts the Mummy MOT session PLUS an add-on service of your choice (like a term of mum & baby yoga, or pilates, or scar therapy, breast (mastitis) physio, reflexology or a recovery massage) for £160 {valid for 1 year}.
Postnatal Check 1 hour session is usually £110

Who to pick? Agnes is our breast health specialist and avid climber and runner, with much experience on sports rehabilitation, Sarah is a highly experienced pelvic physio and soon to be Hatch Athletic coach, with plenty of experience in weightlifting and Crossfit. Liz doesn’t do postnatal checks unless you’ve seen her during pregnancy (due to diary space!).
What if I’ve had a C-section? All our pelvic floor assessments are completely optional and we will be guided by you if you feel it’s appropriate. If you’ve had a C-section, we tend to recommend a pelvic floor assessment anyway as you body has gone through some big changes. We can guide you on how to look after your scar and re-add core strength and connection.
What if I only want my abdominal separation checked? We have a different appointment type for this - please book Diastasis appointment type instead.
