Frequently asked questions

Can I bring my baby?

Absolutely. Two of our treatment rooms are pram-accessible. Massage and scar therapy is generally downstairs, so a sling or carrying may be easier than a pram if you'd like to bring your baby there.

How soon after birth can I have a Mummy MOT?

An internal pelvic floor exam is not advised before 6 weeks post-partum. That said, we have seen mums as early as 3 weeks post delivery, e.g. if you're really struggling, perhaps you've given birth to multiple babies, or if you would like us to look at their diastasis recti (tummy gap, also called a diverification by some) ASAP.

For C-section scars, please wait until this is fully healed (no scab) before your Mummy MOT or scar therapy appointment.

What does a pelvic floor examination involve? Is it compulsory?

An internal pelvic floor exam is never compulsory, and this is something that can be discussed in the session to ensure the patient is totally comfortable and feel it will add to the understanding of their condition.

Does the first session include treatment?

Yes - we will spend 1 hour going through medical history, goals, assessment, creating a treatment plan and starting treatment together.

Is there a cancellation fee?

If you cancel within the 48 hour notice period, yes. This is so we can give others a chance for this space in the diary. The fee is £20 unless due to a medical emergency. Thank you for understanding.

All follow-ups are 30 minutes for £50.

I’ve put my back out or sprained my ankle, can your physios help?

Yes - we are all fully qualified sports physiotherapists, as well as pelvic health physiotherapists.

Do I take insurance?

Yes, we take AXA, Aviva, Vitality pre-authorised sessions. We need your DOB, first line of their address and postcode for invoices if they’re claiming sessions back.

Do I fit pessaries?

No - we would suggest booking in with Mr Madhu at the Spire, or Emma Holloway at the Family Practice on Gloucester road for this.

How many sessions will it take?

This is something we can decide together during the first session, and totally depends on how much support they need. Those with Endometriosis don’t usually need more than 2-3 sessions, whereas a postnatal mum returning to running may need 3-4 sessions, whereas diastasis rehab may take 4-6 session.

Can you support me returning to lifting weights or running?

Yes! Even if you havea  prolapse. We have a barbell and some weights in the clinic so we can practice technique together as much as is needed.

Can I have a pelvic floor exam if I’m on my period?

Yes - internal examinations are always optional, though. If your flow is heavy, it might be sensible to rearrange.
